Al Capone House

  • Al Capone chose this spot because there was no local police department in the area.
  • The land was 37 acres and was used as a landing point for sea planes to smuggle alcohol during prohibition.
  • He owned part interest in Greyhound Racetrack that stood west of what is now Brookfield Square.
  • The house was used as a vacation home.
  • Capone had a flock of geese as prevention for intruders.
    • Since geese fly away when there are people coming, Al Capone used the geese as a signal that people were coming. Then, Al Capone had time to make a get-a-way.
  • The house is located in Waukesha county which was a vacation area for people coming up from Chicago.
  • The house is located half a mile off Highway 18.
  • In addition, the house had very odd rooms.
  • There was a tunnel that lead from the house to the barn and served as an escape route.
  • It was a convenient hangout for neighborhood gangsters.
