Eble Farm

  • In 1879, the 80-acre farm was bought by Mary Eble. This occurred after her husband, the newly elected State Assemblyman Andrew Eble, was accidentally killed while deer hunting.
  • Mary's youngest son, Emery, worked the farm. Later his wife, Julia Ann Winzenried, joined him.
  • The two raised 12 children. 6 of them were born in the 11 room farmhouse which was built in 1895.
  • Two of their youngest children, Roy and Florence, later inherited the property.
  • The Eble's retired from farming and sold off a heard of dairy cows in 1956.
  • They then sold half of the original 80-acre farm south of Bluemound Road in 1964.
  • In September of 1987, 31-acres of land were donated by Roy and Florence to Waukesha County for a park and ice rink.
  • The property is to remain in public use, and serve as a memorial to the Eble Family, which had owned the farm for over a century.
