Wisconsin Memorial Park

  • The park was founded in 1929 after it was purchased by the Froedtert Foundation, a group of local businessmen at the time
    • The businessmen initially intended to use the property as a country club and golf course; however, Kurtis Froedtert grew inspired and persuaded the board to utilize the land as a prestigious cemetery
  • The Great Memorial Building was originally part of the country club. After the board chose to make the property a cemetery, the stone clubhouse was converted to a mausoleum
  • The park is comprised of 160 acres - including animals and many oak, maple, birch, and pine trees
  • On Memorial Day over 1,600 flags fly to represent the fallen soldiers who are buried there
  • The park contains the largest land area and number of burials out of all cemeteries in Waukesha County
  • 4 chapels and 2 outdoor spaces for services
  • The cemetery is in close proximity to the Milwaukee county line
    • It is still a working cemetery today

Fun Fact: More than 175 individual stained glass windows are found along the building. That's the most imported stain glass in Wisconsin!
